(CBS DETROIT) – A Michigan man was taken into custody on Tuesday following an altercation with a woman in Monroe. The incident occurred when the man approached a woman who was gardening in her yard and engaged in a verbal confrontation, leading to a physical altercation with responding officers.
Authorities were alerted to the incident at 5:22 p.m. and promptly responded to a residence in the 900 block of Western Ave in Monroe. According to police reports, the man approached the woman while she was gardening and began shouting profanities and incoherent statements at her. He then proceeded to take a rake from the woman, threatening her life in the process.
Upon retreating into her house for safety, the man aggressively punched the front door, causing damage to the property. Subsequently, he retreated to the roadway in front of the residence, where he laid down, refusing to comply with the authorities’ commands upon their arrival.
Despite attempts to subdue him, the 40-year-old Monroe man resisted arrest and engaged in physical altercations with the officers. It was evident to law enforcement that the suspect was under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident. Following his arrest, the man was taken to a local hospital for assessment before being transferred to the Monroe County Jail.
He now faces charges of felonious assault, resisting and obstructing, and malicious destruction of property. The investigation into the incident is ongoing as authorities work to gather further information and evidence related to the case.
