Another Dog Attack in Chennai Leaves 6-Year-Old Boy Injured

It has been reported that a 6-year-old boy named Harishkumar was severely attacked by a neighbour’s dog while out for a walk in the Pulinathope area of Chennai on Wednesday, May 15, 2024. The young child sustained injuries to his shoulder, thigh, chest, leg, and face, and was immediately taken to the Chennai Children’s Hospital at Egmore for urgent medical attention.

Following the incident, Harishkumar’s mother, Thenmozhi, lodged a complaint against the dog’s owner, Stella. The Basin Bridge Police Station initiated an investigation and registered a case against the 10-year-old boy responsible for walking the dog, as well as the child’s mother, Preetha, and grandmother, Stella.

This unfortunate event comes shortly after two Rottweiler pet dogs attacked a 5-year-old girl in Chennai’s Nungambakkam while she was playing in a corporation park on May 6, 2024.

In response to these incidents, the Tamil Nadu Animal Husbandry Department initially imposed a ban on the import, breeding, or sale of 33 dog breeds classified as “dangerous” for public safety. However, this order was swiftly overturned after the Madras High Court issued a stay on the ban.
