SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – A Springfield resident has been hit with further charges in relation to a fatal assault that took place at the end of last month.

Jim Leydon, spokesperson for the Hampden District Attorney’s Office, disclosed that Springfield Police were summoned to the 100 block of Federal Street on the morning of April 30 following reports of a domestic altercation involving a lethal weapon.

Upon arrival, law enforcement discovered a female victim, identified as 45-year-old Quitiza Holmes from the Burton/Holmes family of Springfield, who had sustained severe head injuries. She was rushed to Baystate Medical Center but tragically passed away on Thursday, May 16.

Leydon further stated that 67-year-old Kenneth Robson of Springfield was apprehended and initially charged with armed assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Additionally, investigators are now seeking to add a charge of murder to his case.

Robson was first brought before the court on April 30 and was remanded in custody pending a dangerousness hearing scheduled for May 2. During this hearing, he was deemed a significant risk and was ordered to remain in custody without the option of bail for a period of 120 days. A future court date will be arranged for his arraignment on the murder charge.

The investigation into this tragic incident is being led by the Springfield Police homicide unit in collaboration with the D.A.’s murder unit.
