In a shocking turn of events, Kengeri police in Bengaluru have arrested a 24-year-old data entry operator named Monika for the alleged murder of her house owner, Divya. The incident took place on May 10, when Monika reportedly strangled Divya to death in order to help her boyfriend purchase a vehicle and clear her debts by selling the valuables of the deceased.
Monika, a native of Kolar, had been residing in a rented portion of Divya’s house located in Konasandra. Divya’s husband, Gurumurthy, operates a salon in Shivanapalya, Kengeri. On the day of the murder, Divya was home with her two-year-old child while Gurumurthy’s mother was away at work.
According to reports, Monika committed the crime by strangling Divya and fleeing with a gold chain weighing approximately 30 grams. She later pawned the gold chain at a local pawnbroker’s shop. Gurumurthy had recently built the house, and Monika had initially come with her boyfriend, posing as her husband, to rent a portion of it. However, she eventually started living there alone.
The motive behind the murder seems to stem from Monika’s financial troubles as she had recently quit her job and was struggling to repay her debts. The murder came to light when Gurumurthy failed to reach Divya and eventually found her lifeless body in their home. The absence of forced entry led the police to suspect that the perpetrator was acquainted with the family.
Upon interrogation at the police station, Monika confessed to the murder, leading to her arrest. The authorities have indicated that further investigations are ongoing to gather more evidence and details about the case.
