CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – A devastating incident occurred on I-80 eastbound at mile marker 12 1/2 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, this morning at around 9:15 am, which resulted in a fatal crash.
According to investigators, 41-year-old Clifford Miller from Pennsylvania was involved in the accident. Reports suggest that Miller attempted to overtake a semi-truck in the eastbound lanes while two lanes were merging into one due to ongoing highway maintenance. Unfortunately, as Miller changed lanes, he veered into the closed-off left lane, colliding with a Department of Transportation (DOT) maintenance worker, their work pickup, and another worker inside the vehicle.
Tragically, the collision led to the death of one of the workers who was behind the pickup truck at the time of the crash. The victim has been identified as 36-year-old Matthew Dickerson, hailing from Neola, Iowa.
Furthermore, the worker who was inside the pickup truck during the incident sustained injuries as a result of the collision.
The Iowa State Patrol responded promptly to the scene to investigate the crash and manage the aftermath of this tragic event. Our thoughts and condolences go out to the family and loved ones of the deceased worker, Matthew Dickerson, during this difficult time.
