A heartbreaking incident occurred in Chennai when a one-year-old boy tragically lost his life after a portion of a sunshade collapsed on him while he was playing outside his house on Tuesday evening. The boy’s mother, who was present at the scene, also sustained injuries and is currently receiving medical treatment.
The young victim has been identified as M Kabilan, and his father, Manikandan (30), works as a construction worker. The incident took place in a house that is reported to be 50 years old.
According to the local authorities, the unfortunate event unfolded as Kabilan was engrossed in play outside his residence, with his mother in close proximity. Suddenly, a section of the sunshade gave way and fell on the innocent child, causing him severe harm. Tragically, his mother also suffered injuries in the incident.
Upon hearing the commotion, concerned neighbours rushed to the scene and promptly alerted the Guduvanchery police. The authorities quickly intervened and transported the injured pair to a nearby medical facility, where they received immediate first aid. Subsequently, they were transferred to the Government Chengalpattu Hospital for further treatment.
Despite the best efforts of the medical team, young Kabilan could not be saved and was pronounced dead at the hospital. Meanwhile, his mother continues to receive medical care and is said to be in a stable condition, recovering from her injuries.
This tragic incident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of ensuring the safety and stability of structures, especially in residential areas where families reside. The authorities are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the collapse of the sunshade to prevent such accidents from occurring in the future.
