A 34-year-old man with mental health issues met a tragic end in Vellode, Erode, after he accidentally came into contact with a live wire that had snapped during heavy rainfall on Tuesday evening. The victim, identified as K Somasundaram from Nallampalayam, was under the care of his elder brother Shankar at the time of the incident.
The unfortunate incident occurred amidst the backdrop of heavy rain and strong winds that lashed Nallampalayam on Tuesday evening. Somasundaram was spotted by a local resident named Thangamuthu, who found him holding onto a broken electric line in the area. Thangamuthu immediately informed Shankar about the situation, who then promptly alerted the Vellode police authorities.
In response to the distress call, the police acted swiftly by cutting off the power supply, recovering Somasundaram’s body, and transporting it to the Government Medical College Hospital in Perundurai for further examination. The authorities have since registered a case in connection with the incident, shedding light on the tragic circumstances that led to the man’s untimely demise.
“It appears that Somasundaram ventured out during the rain and unknowingly picked up the live electric wire from a private farm in the vicinity. Fortunately, once the information reached the authorities, the power supply was promptly disconnected, preventing any further harm,” explained a police officer familiar with the case.
Despite repeated attempts to seek clarification and comments from the officials at the TANGEDCO office in Perundurai South, located in Vellode, they remained unavailable for response.
