RIO GRANDE CITY, Texas (ValleyCentral) — Two men from Starr County have been handed down sentences after being caught selling Glock switches to undercover officers, according to court documents.

Jesse James Garcia and Jorge Gonzalez received their sentences after pleading guilty to charges of unlawful possession of a machine gun, as per federal records.

According to a criminal complaint filed on May 4, 2023, Garcia informed an undercover officer that he had around 20 Glock conversion devices, also known as Glock switches. He explained to the officer that the device could transform a pistol into a fully automatic machine gun.

Following this conversation, on May 10, 2024, a “controlled purchase” was conducted by the ATF, during which three Glock switches were purchased from Garcia for $350 each.

After the purchase, ATF agents observed Garcia visiting a residence on Bustos Street in Rio Grande City, which was identified as Gonzalez’s home.

Just two days later, Garcia sold the undercover officer an additional eight Glock switches. Subsequently, Garcia was arrested, and a search warrant was executed at Gonzalez’s residence, where another switch was found on a dresser.

Both men appeared before Judge Ricardo Hinojosa on Wednesday for sentencing. Gonzalez was credited for time served (370 days), while Garcia was sentenced to a year and one day in federal prison. They have both been ordered to serve two years of supervised release.
