The motorcyclist who tragically lost his life in a collision with a school bus on Wednesday has been identified as Jeffrey M. Santora, a 50-year-old man from Shorewood, according to the Will County Coroner’s Office.
The fatal incident occurred in the 24000 block of West Shepley Road in Troy Township. Santora was pronounced dead at the scene by authorities. The Will County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash, which took place at approximately 2:50 p.m.
Will County Deputy Chief Dan Jungles confirmed to local news outlet Patch that Santora succumbed to his injuries at the scene, while a female passenger on the motorcycle sustained serious injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Jungles revealed that the school bus involved in the collision was in the process of dropping off a child at the time of impact. The bus had come to a stop when the motorcycle collided with it, as confirmed by Will County sheriff’s officials following the incident.
Will County sheriff’s spokeswoman Kathy Hoffmeyer disclosed that there were approximately 15 children on board the school bus at the time of the crash, all of whom thankfully emerged unscathed from the ordeal. The children were swiftly relocated to a safe location away from the scene, and their parents were promptly notified of the situation.
