A man in McCracken County, Kentucky is facing charges after allegedly driving drunk and leaving the scene of a crash. The incident took place on Wednesday, May 15, on Wadesboro Road.
According to the McCracken County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a report of a single-vehicle rollover crash with injuries just before 5 p.m. When they arrived at the scene, they found a dump truck overturned in a ditch. A witness informed the deputies that the driver had fled the scene.
The driver was later identified as 52-year-old James Willingham from Symsonia, Kentucky. During the investigation of the collision, deputies spotted Willingham in the passenger seat of a passing vehicle. Upon stopping the vehicle, they determined that he was under the influence of alcohol.
Willingham sustained injuries in the crash and was taken to a local hospital by the Mayfield Fire Department. Once medically cleared, he was arrested and booked into the McCracken County Jail.
He is facing charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol (third offense), third-degree criminal mischief, and leaving the scene of an accident. The Hendron Fire Department, Mayfield Fire Department, Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, DES, and Harpers Towing all provided assistance at the crash site.
