A man suspected of killing a two-year-old child in Clearlake was taken into custody on Thursday morning, according to a statement from the Sonoma County Sheriff Department.
Law enforcement officials responded to reports of a shooting at a gathering on the 14000 block of Uhl Avenue on March 23. The perpetrator reportedly fled the scene following the incident.
After thorough investigation, Fernando Lugo-Garcia was identified as the primary suspect in the case. Authorities issued a warrant for his arrest, leading to his apprehension by Sonoma County Sheriff deputies. Lugo-Garcia was subsequently booked into Lake County Jail on charges of murder, assault with a deadly weapon, and multiple firearms violations.
The collaborative efforts of the Clearlake Police Department and the sheriff’s Violent Crime Investigations Unit contributed to the successful apprehension of Lugo-Garcia. Past encounters with the suspect suggested a history of involvement in gang-related activities.
