More Charges Filed in Assault on Off-Duty Philadelphia Police Officer
PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — Authorities have announced that two additional suspects, identified as Cian Dennis, 23, and Khamil Brown, 24, have been charged in connection with the assault on an off-duty Philadelphia police officer over the weekend. The pair now face charges of aggravated assault, robbery, and other related offenses.

Dennis was previously known only as “Duke,” while Yusef Coleman, 24, was arrested earlier this week in connection with the incident. However, a third suspect, Arthur Jones, 38, remains at large.
The off-duty officer involved in the incident has been identified as 42-year-old Eric Rodriguez, a nine-year veteran of the force. Rodriguez is currently recovering from the injuries sustained during the assault.
As a standard procedure, Rodriguez will remain on administrative leave while the internal affairs and officer-involved shooting investigations are ongoing, following the discharge of his weapon during the altercation.
The assault took place at around 7 a.m. on Sunday on Oxford Street near Ridge Avenue. Rodriguez, who was heading home after his shift, became caught in traffic as a nearby after-hours club let out, leading to the confrontation.
According to police reports, the situation escalated when Dennis approached Rodriguez’s vehicle and initiated the attack, which ultimately resulted in a physical struggle between the officer and the suspects.
During the altercation, Rodriguez fired his weapon, resulting in no injuries to any parties. However, he was physically assaulted by multiple individuals, and his personal firearm was stolen from its holster before being recovered by authorities on Tuesday.
Following the incident, a suspect fled the scene in a black BMW, striking Rodriguez’s leg in the process. Rodriguez was treated for a black eye, facial bruises, and a leg injury.
