The incident unfolded when deputies arrived at a residence on Agner Road to serve warrants for failure to appear on Bethany Morgan Peacock Lomax, aged 36. Upon entering the home, deputies encountered Lomax and another individual, identified as Jonathan Scott Whitley, aged 35, in a back bedroom. It was at this point that deputies noticed a loaded revolver on the bed, prompting Whitley to attempt to shut the door in their faces. Undeterred, the deputies entered the bedroom and took both individuals into custody.

During the arrest, deputies also observed a bong in the room, along with multiple rifles displayed on a wall rack. Further investigation revealed that Whitley was a felon, leading to his arrest for felony possession of a firearm by a felon. Subsequently, deputies obtained search warrants for the house and Whitley’s vehicle parked in the driveway.

A thorough search of the premises yielded a disturbing find. Deputies uncovered a cache of controlled substances, including marijuana laced with fentanyl, methamphetamine, unadulterated marijuana, cocaine, digital scales, and glass pipes. All seized items were subjected to testing, confirming their illicit nature. A search of Whitley’s vehicle also revealed more methamphetamine, scales, and pipes.

As a result of the findings, Whitley was charged with a slew of offences, including felony trafficking in cocaine, felony trafficking in drugs, and felony possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute. He was remanded to the Rowan County Detention Center without bond following a hearing before Magistrate Mark Wilhelm.

Similarly, Lomax faced a litany of charges, including felony possession of controlled substances with intent to distribute and felony trafficking in cocaine and heroin. She, too, was held without bond after a hearing before Magistrate Sean Reid.

The discovery of firearms and controlled substances in the home has underscored the importance of thorough law enforcement investigations. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers posed by the trafficking of illegal substances and the need for vigilance in combating such criminal activities. Authorities continue to investigate the case to ensure that justice is served and the community remains safe from such illicit activities.
