Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department investigators are on the hunt for a suspect who fatally shot a 14-year-old boy in Lancaster park earlier this week, leaving his family in a state of devastation.
The tragic incident took place just after 8:30 p.m. on Monday at El Dorado Park in the 44500 block of 5th Street E.
The victim, identified as Benny Gutierrez, was last seen by his mother, Rosalie Gutierrez, an hour before the fatal shooting took place. Describing her son, Rosalie said, “He was funny, outgoing, loving, and had a special bond with his sisters.”
Initial reports suggest that Benny, along with a friend and several other teenagers, was at the park possibly covering up gang graffiti on a park wall when shots were fired from a car in the parking lot.
Tragically, Benny was struck by a single bullet and succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
His family was informed of the heartbreaking news about six hours later through social media.
Expressing her grief, Benny’s older sister Crysta Gutierrez shared, “My heart sank because this is my baby. I just couldn’t believe it, the pain was unbearable.”

Standing tall at 5 feet 10 inches and weighing 200 pounds, Benny was not only an aspiring soccer player but also a gentle soul, his family reveals. “People saw him as tough on the outside, but inside he was just a scared little kid,” Crysta said.
Since the tragic incident, friends and family have been gathering at the park every evening to pay tribute to Benny, remembering him as a kind-hearted and family-oriented individual.
Reflecting on Benny’s character, his cousin Cindy Estrada shared, “He’s just a baby. He’s funny, loves eating hot fries, watching movies, and is very family-oriented. He’s not involved in any gang activities.”
Mother’s Heartfelt Message
Addressing the perpetrators, Benny’s mother had a poignant message: “You took the life of a child. My world revolved around him. He was my baby, and I was devoted to him. If you hear this, justice will prevail, and you will be held accountable for your actions.”
The family believes they have identified the individuals responsible for Benny’s untimely death, although investigations are ongoing, and no arrests have been made.
