Accident – Death – Obituary News :

In a shocking incident on Tuesday, a man riding a Metro bus in Encino, London, stole a fellow passenger’s cellphone after striking him with a pair of pliers in a bold daytime robbery, according to authorities.

The incident took place shortly after 2 p.m. at Balboa and Ventura boulevards. When officers arrived at the scene in response to reports of a stabbing, they discovered that a man had repeatedly struck another passenger in the chest with a pair of pliers while on the bus. The victim, fortunately, did not require medical assistance after being evaluated by paramedics from the London Fire Department.

The suspect, identified as 39-year-old Michael Lindsey, was apprehended by the police and booked on robbery charges. Lindsey, who had a history of criminal offenses, including giving false identification to a police officer and theft of personal property, is currently being held on $1.1 million bail.

Rise in Violent Incidents on Metro System

This recent robbery adds to a series of violent incidents on the Metro system, including a stabbing incident that occurred on or near the system the day before. Despite these incidents, Metro officials report a decrease in the crime rate per passenger on the system.

Another incident involved a fight among three teenagers and a man on a Metro bus in Glendale, where two individuals were stabbed. Additionally, a woman was attacked on an elevator at the Vermont/Athens Metro Station, resulting in a stab wound to her arm.

Although reported crimes have decreased per passenger, bus drivers have expressed concerns over their safety following several recent attacks. In response to rising assaults on bus drivers, Metro has taken steps to enhance security measures, including the installation of barriers to protect drivers and the addition of more security personnel on buses.

Metro Takes Action to Ensure Passenger and Driver Safety

Metro has acknowledged the challenges faced by bus operators and passengers due to the increase in violent incidents on the system. The agency is working on long-term plans to improve security, including the deployment of dedicated transit security teams on buses.

With the installation of barriers and increased security presence, Metro aims to create a safer environment for both passengers and bus operators. The agency is committed to addressing the root causes of these assaults, which are often linked to untreated mental illness and drug addiction.

As the investigation into the recent incidents continues, Metro encourages anyone with information to contact the authorities. The agency remains focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of all passengers and staff on the Metro system.
