Law enforcement authorities in Kansas City, Kansas, are continuing their investigation into a car theft that resulted in a police chase and the fatal shooting of an officer. The search for a suspect who fled from the scene is ongoing.

Shortly before 11:30 p.m. on May 10, Kansas City Kansas Police received information about a stolen silver Hyundai Sonata in the vicinity of S. 7th Street Trafficway and Interstate 35. A concerned citizen alerted 911 to report that a silver car had come to a stop in the 1500 block of S. 7th Street Trafficway, and individuals were seen fleeing from the vehicle. At the same time, an officer arrived at the scene and witnessed three suspects running from the car.

In self-defence, the KCKPD officer returned fire, fatally wounding the suspect identified as Jordan Cole, an 18-year-old resident of Kansas City, Kansas. Cole was pronounced dead at the scene.

Following the exchange of gunfire, the officer, along with a second responding officer, managed to apprehend a 16-year-old boy. Fortunately, none of the police officers involved in the incident sustained any injuries.
