HERVEY CITY, Ill. (WAND) – The community of Hervey City is in shock following the tragic shooting incident that claimed the life of Gregory W. Hostetler, a well-respected member of the community. Hostetler, 48, was pronounced dead at the scene of the shooting that took place on Monday.

Ed Forsythe, Executive Director of the Professional Towing and Recovery Operators of Illinois, shared his thoughts on Hostetler, stating, “Greg was a valued member of our organization for many years. He was known for his professionalism and dedication to his work. His untimely passing is a tragic loss for all who knew him.”

Details of the Incident

The shooting took place near Five Star Auto Sales, where Hostetler and an 18-year-old victim were found with gunshot wounds. The suspect, identified as Tiimon Perry, also sustained injuries during the altercation.

According to Macon County Sheriff Jim Root, the incident stemmed from a dispute over a towing fee. Perry, who had come to retrieve a towed vehicle, refused to pay the fee, leading to a confrontation that turned violent.

Sergeant Scott Flannery of the Macon County Sheriff’s office provided further details, explaining, “The situation escalated when Perry brandished a handgun, resulting in the tragic outcome that claimed Hostetler’s life.”

Legal Proceedings

Perry, who is currently hospitalized for his injuries, will face charges of first-degree murder and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon once he recovers. Additional charges related to the incident are also expected to be filed.

Meanwhile, Hostetler’s family and friends have set up a GoFundMe page to support them during this difficult time. The campaign has already raised a significant amount in donations.

The Macon County Sheriff’s Office and Illinois State Police are continuing their investigation into the tragic event, seeking to bring justice for Hostetler and his loved ones.
