ROCKFORD, Ill. (WIFR) – Authorities in Rockford have apprehended two teenagers who are facing a slew of charges after allegedly stealing a vehicle and attempting to evade law enforcement officers.

Deondrey Murphy, aged 19, has been charged with possession of a stolen vehicle, resisting arrest, aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a defaced firearm, armed robbery, and aggravated robbery. Additionally, a 17-year-old individual is facing charges of criminal trespass to a vehicle, resisting arrest, possession of cannabis, armed robbery, and aggravated robbery.

The incident unfolded on Tuesday when Rockford police officers successfully tracked down a vehicle that had been reported stolen from Machesney Park. The stolen vehicle was located in the 4000 block of Auburn Street in Rockford. Upon attempting to stop the car, the officers initiated a pursuit. The driver, later identified as Murphy, abandoned the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. The 17-year-old passenger also absconded from the scene but was eventually apprehended after a brief struggle with the authorities.

As part of the investigation, law enforcement officers discovered a loaded, defaced handgun in the possession of the suspects.
