CRANFORD, NJ — The construction worker who tragically lost his life last week after a fatal accident in Kenilworth has been identified as Corey Greg Stasenko, aged 29, of Cranford. The incident, which occurred on May 6, saw Stasenko fall into a trench while attempting to install a storm drain using an excavator at 351 Monroe Ave. in Kenilworth, according to local authorities.

While carrying out the installation, Stasenko fell into the trench and was trapped underneath construction debris, leading to the fatal outcome.

Early Life and Career

Stasenko, originally from Summit and a long-time resident of South Plainfield before moving to Cranford in 2022, had a passion for wrestling and played football for the town team during his high school years. He was a graduate of South Plainfield High School, Class of 2013, and furthered his education by studying Human Resources at Rutgers University – New Brunswick, as well as plumbing at Middlesex County Magnet School in Piscataway.

Prior to his tragic passing, Stasenko had started his own company, Stasenko Landscaping & Hardscaping, and was working towards becoming a licensed plumber upon graduation in 2023.

Personal Interests and Family

Outside of his professional pursuits, Corey Stasenko enjoyed activities such as skateboarding in his youth, snowboarding, golfing, and had a keen interest in art, drawing, and cooking as he grew older. His obituary highlighted his diverse range of hobbies and passions.

Corey Stasenko is survived by his parents, Lisa Scarpa and Gregory Stasenko, as well as his siblings, Alisha Stasenko and Joshua Stasenko. He will be dearly missed by his grandparents, Stella Stasenko and Bernard Scarpa, along with other extended family members and friends.
