A tragic incident occurred in Bridgeview, IL, early Wednesday morning as a man was fatally shot while walking to his car. The victim has been identified as Arturo Cantu, aged 39, who resided in an apartment building in the 7300 block of West 79th Street.
According to Bridgeview police, it is believed that Cantu had remote started his car and was heading towards it when he was confronted near the vehicle, where the shooting took place. His body was discovered on the easement around 5 a.m., having sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
Chief Rick Mancha of the Bridgeview Police Department stated, “We’re still trying to determine if this was a targeted shooting or a robbery or carjacking gone wrong. One thing I do want to reiterate is that Bridgeview is a safe community. We haven’t had a shooting in over a year.”
Investigators are currently working on the case, trying to gather information to apprehend the suspect. The authorities are exploring the possibility of someone waiting by the car since it had been remote started. Oketo Avenue was temporarily closed during the investigation but has since reopened.
