The Vellarada police have apprehended two individuals in connection with the assault on a pastor in Vellarada on Tuesday night.
The suspects have been identified as Akhil Lal, aged 22, and Abin Roy, aged 19. Additionally, a 17-year-old youth implicated in the incident has been presented before the Juvenile Justice Board.
This incident highlights the troubling trend of violence perpetrated by armed criminal groups. The trio, armed with weapons, instilled fear in the community of Amboori on the fateful night.
Reports suggest that under the influence of narcotics, the perpetrators targeted a pastor and viciously attacked a Consumerfed employee and her spouse. The couple was on their way home on a motorcycle when the assailants intercepted them near their residence, demanding money. Upon refusal, they were subjected to a brutal assault. The pastor, who happened to be passing by with his son, also fell victim to their aggression when he refused to comply with their demands.
Following the attack, the pastor was rushed to Vellarada hospital for treatment, before being transferred to Government Medical College Hospital for further care.
Subsequently, the offenders menaced another Consumerfed employee and made off with his motorbike. While two of them managed to evade capture, the third perpetrator was apprehended by vigilant locals attempting to flee the scene, and was promptly handed over to the authorities.
