Accident – Death – Obituary News :

TEMPLE, Texas (KXXV) — The Texas Department of Transportation and Department of Public Safety have released the crash report detailing the tragic oversized load collision that occurred on Highway 36 in Temple on April 27.

Details of the Crash

According to the report, the oversized load involved in the collision was larger than the allowable lane width, requiring it to straddle both the east and westbound lanes on SH36. A Houston police motorcycle escort was leading the convoy to direct eastbound traffic to pull over and stop for the incoming oversized load.

Investigators stated that the driver of a Ford F-150 traveling eastbound on SH36 was either distracted or inattentive, failing to heed warnings from vehicles escorting the oversized load traveling in the opposite direction. As a result, the driver of the Ford F-150 swerved into the westbound lane, where the oversized load was positioned.

Upon encountering a line of stopped vehicles in the eastbound lane, the driver of the Ford F-150 failed to stop behind the line and instead veered into the westbound lane, causing a dangerous situation for the oversized load. The driver of the oversized load took evasive action by applying brakes to avoid a collision.

Escalating Events

After the Ford F-150 pulled over to the right shoulder of the westbound lane and stopped, it partially blocked the lane, forcing the oversized load to veer left. This maneuver, coupled with insufficient clearance between stopped traffic on the left, led to a series of events that resulted in tragedy.

As the oversized load attempted to maneuver between the Ford F-150 and a GMC among the stopped traffic in the eastbound lane, sudden braking caused the load’s cargo to shift forward. The momentum of the trailers coming to an abrupt stop led to the chains holding the cargo snapping, causing the cargo to rotate and fall off the trailer, landing on the Ford F-150.

Tragic Outcome

Tragically, the driver of the Ford F-150 became trapped under the fallen cargo, sustaining injuries. However, the two passengers in the vehicle, identified as 22-year-old Abigail Boatwright and 17-year-old Evan Boatwright, lost their lives in the accident.

The Temple Police Department is conducting further investigations into the incident and is expected to release more information in due course.

Conclusion

The detailed crash report sheds light on the sequence of events leading up to the fatal oversized load collision on Highway 36 in Temple. The investigation highlights the importance of attentiveness and adherence to safety protocols on the road to prevent such tragic accidents from occurring.
