Oak Bay Police recently apprehended a driver who was traveling at an alarming speed of 161 km/hr on Beach Drive, near Newport Avenue. The incident occurred on Saturday, May 11th, around 7:44 p.m., when an officer conducting speed enforcement noticed the vehicle exceeding the 40 km/hr speed limit by a significant margin.

The driver, a 32-year-old man, was promptly pulled over and issued a violation ticket for excessive speeding, resulting in a fine of $483. In addition to the fine, the driver’s vehicle was towed and impounded for a period of seven days as per the law.

This incident was not an isolated one, as earlier in the week, another driver was caught speeding in the same area on Beach Drive. On Thursday, May 9th, at 5:20 p.m., an officer observed a vehicle traveling at 96 km/hr in the 40 km/hr zone. The driver, a 19-year-old man holding a novice driver’s licence, was also issued a ticket for excessive speeding and had his vehicle impounded for seven days.
