Man Arrested for DWI and Weapons Charges in Fredericksburg

FREDERICKSBURG, VA — A 19-year-old man from Manassas is currently being held in the Rappahannock Regional Jail without bond after being apprehended for driving under the influence and on weapons-related charges.

Sgt. J.D. Hurt and Dep. J.R. Suarez from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call regarding an intoxicated individual at the Wawa store situated at 275 Butler Road. The person who alerted the authorities mentioned that the man had dropped his firearm while behaving erratically in the store. Additionally, it was reported that when the store declined to sell tobacco to the man due to a lack of identification, he proceeded to inquire about purchasing controlled substances instead, as per SCSO.

Hurt and Suarez successfully located the suspect, identified as Xavier Washington from Manassas, and took him into custody without any issues. During the arrest, a handgun was discovered concealed in Washington’s waistband by the deputies.

Upon reviewing surveillance footage, Hurt and Suarez determined that Washington had driven to the store. Subsequently, the deputies reached out to the registered owner of the vehicle, who informed them that the vehicle had been stolen.

Following a search of the vehicle, law enforcement officials recovered an unspecified quantity of controlled substances, a substantial amount of ammunition, and a rifle, according to the official crime report. Further investigations revealed that Washington was subject to a protective order in Prince William County, prohibiting him from possessing a firearm. Additionally, Washington admitted to not having a valid driver’s license and disclosed that this arrest marked his second DUI offense, as outlined in SCSO’s report.

Washington has been charged with driving under the influence for the second time within a five-year period, unauthorized use of a vehicle, carrying a concealed weapon, two counts of firearm possession while under a protective order, possession of controlled substances, underage possession of tobacco, and driving without a driver’s license for the second time.
