Accident – Death – Obituary News :

Stephen Mwangi, a 16-year-old form 3 student, tragically succumbed to his injuries at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital’s ICU unit on Monday, May 13, 2024.

The young boy had suffered severe head and rib injuries as a result of a brutal assault by rogue Kenya Forest Service (KFS) officials.

Reports indicate that Mwangi was defending his mother, Mary Wambui, from alleged sexual harassment by the officers when the incident occurred.

According to Mary Wambui, she and her 11-year-old son were together when the KFS officials apprehended her for collecting firewood illegally in the Koibatek forest.

Desperate to secure her release, Mary instructed her son to gather money from neighbors as the officers demanded a hefty bribe of Ksh20,000.

Upon his arrival, Mwangi witnessed the officers assaulting his mother and bravely tried to intervene, only to be met with a flurry of blows and kicks from the enraged officials.

Initially taken to Eldama Revine Hospital, Mwangi was later transferred to Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for specialized treatment due to the severity of his injuries.

Tragically, despite the best efforts of medical staff, Mwangi passed away at 11:00 pm on Monday while still in the ICU, where he had been fighting for his life for two days.

Mary Wambui, grieving the loss of her son, expressed shock and disbelief at his sudden and senseless death.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the dangers faced by ordinary citizens at the hands of corrupt and abusive authorities.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the family and loved ones of Stephen Mwangi during this difficult time.
