In a tragic accident on Tuesday morning in Moore County, a teenager lost his life in a car crash, as confirmed by a trooper with the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
The incident occurred around 8 a.m. when a Honda Civic was travelling north on Youngs Road between Southern Pines and Vass. According to troopers, the vehicle was speeding on a curve, leading to it veering off the road, flipping over, and colliding with a tree.
The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Ryan Tracy, who was the sole occupant of the car at the time of the crash.
Images from the scene captured by the Sandhills Sentinel depict a blue Honda with severe damage resting next to a tree that also sustained significant harm.
The Sandhills Sentinel’s report indicated that the driver was travelling at an excessive speed for the rainy weather conditions and was not wearing a seat belt. Tracy, a resident of Southern Pines, was reportedly ejected 30 feet from the vehicle upon impact.
Union Pines High School, where Tracy was a student, issued a statement expressing their condolences and sorrow over the tragic incident:
