A 17-year-old teenager has been taken into custody by authorities in Encinitas on suspicion of fatally stabbing his older brother during a heated argument at their family home. The tragic incident occurred late Saturday night in a quiet residential area located on Sprucewood Drive, just southeast of the intersection of El Camino Real and Encinitas Boulevard.
The victim, identified as 19-year-old Miguel Mozo-Hernandez, succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to a nearby hospital by emergency medical personnel. The altercation between the two siblings reportedly turned violent, resulting in the younger brother allegedly plunging a knife into his brother’s abdomen.
Law enforcement officials swiftly responded to a distress call made by a concerned individual who witnessed the altercation. Upon arrival at the scene, deputies found Mozo-Hernandez in critical condition and immediately sought medical assistance for him. Tragically, despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be saved.
The alleged assailant, whose identity has not been disclosed due to legal reasons as he is a minor, was apprehended by authorities near an LA Fitness facility located approximately half a mile away from the family residence. The teenager was subsequently arrested in connection with the fatal stabbing and has since been placed in Juvenile Hall pending further legal proceedings.
Speaking on the ongoing investigation, Sheriff’s Homicide Lieutenant Michael Krugh stated, “The motives and circumstances surrounding this tragic incident are still being probed by our team. We urge the public to remain patient as we work diligently to uncover the truth.”
