Accident – Death – Obituary News : A grandfather in Sacramento was arrested after allegedly paying a homeless woman to look after his granddaughter while he went to a nearby bar, according to the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office. The incident unfolded on Sunday night when deputies received reports of a man seeking help to find his missing 7-year-old granddaughter, who he claimed had been abducted.

Upon meeting the man, identified as Jason Warren, authorities noted that he appeared to be severely intoxicated. Warren confessed to giving $20 to a homeless woman to take his granddaughter to a thrift store close by. He described the woman as being in her late 20s to early 30s and expressed trust in her character, likening it to that of a family member.

The homeless woman, later identified as 34-year-old Lauren Jope, was hailed as a “guardian angel” by the sheriff’s office. Jope recounted her interaction with Warren, stating that she felt compelled to ensure the child’s safety despite initial reservations about the situation. As Warren spent approximately four hours at a bar, Jope stayed with the granddaughter, ultimately returning her to the parking lot where she had been left.

In response to the potential kidnapping situation, law enforcement deployed helicopters, unmanned aerial systems, and K9 units to assist in the search for Jope and the child. Fortunately, the girl was unharmed and corroborated Jope’s account of events. Following a medical evaluation by the Sacramento Fire Department, the child was reunited with her aunt, who had full custody.

Warren was subsequently arrested and charged with felony child endangerment, among other offenses. He is currently being held on a $75,000 bail and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday. When questioned about his actions, Warren maintained his innocence, expressing faith in God’s will.

The heartwarming story of Jope’s intervention has garnered praise from the community and law enforcement alike. Sgt. Amar Gandhi of the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office commended Jope as a true “guardian angel” for her selfless actions in ensuring the child’s safety.

As the case unfolds, it serves as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and the impact that a stranger’s kindness can have in times of need. The child’s safe return home underscores the significance of community support and swift action in safeguarding the well-being of vulnerable individuals..
