Jose Polo : NYC Man Crashes Fleeing Cops on Saw Mill with Kids In Car

A 40-year-old man from New York City was taken into custody following a dramatic chase with law enforcement in Westchester County. The incident unfolded on Saturday morning, when a patrol officer attempted to pull over a white Mercedes SUV on the Saw Mill River Parkway near Rte. 119. The driver, later identified as Jose Polo, refused to comply with the officer’s instructions, leading to a pursuit.

The officer initially tried to stop the SUV, but the driver accelerated, prompting the officer to discontinue the chase for safety reasons. However, the Mercedes was later spotted slowing down in traffic at Lawrence St., where the officer once again activated his emergency lights in an attempt to apprehend the suspect. The driver fled once more, ultimately crashing into another vehicle and then colliding with the center guardrail.

After crashing the vehicle, Polo abandoned the SUV and attempted to escape on foot, running across traffic lanes and into the Saw Mill River. Despite his efforts to evade capture, the officer managed to apprehend Polo with the assistance of an off-duty police officer who witnessed the chase.

Authorities later discovered that Polo was in possession of a fraudulent driver’s license from the Dominican Republic, rather than a valid one. A female passenger and two children who were in the Mercedes at the time of the incident were evaluated by EMS as a precaution and released at the scene.

Polo was charged with endangering the welfare of a child, reckless endangerment, reckless driving, aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, fleeing an officer in a motor vehicle, and possession of a forged instrument, in addition to multiple traffic violations. He appeared in Dobbs Ferry village court for arraignment and was subsequently released on his own recognizance.
