GARDEN GROVE, California (KABC) — Tragedy struck in Garden Grove early Sunday morning as a woman lost her life in a possible DUI-related crash that left a community in shock.

The victim, identified as 40-year-old Janet Carrillo, was a beloved wife and mother of two teenage boys. Her untimely death has left her family and friends devastated.

Authorities from the Garden Grove Police Department responded to the scene on the 11800 block of Magnolia Street around 2 a.m. following reports of a hit-and-run incident.

Upon arrival, officers discovered a vehicle had crashed into a residential property, with the victim trapped underneath the wreckage. Tragically, Janet Carrillo was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses at the scene provided crucial information that led to the apprehension of the suspect, a 35-year-old man from Riverside. He was located in a nearby neighbourhood and taken into custody without resistance.

An official statement from the Garden Grove police indicated that alcohol or drugs are suspected to have played a role in the collision. Further investigations and forensic testing by the Orange County Crime Lab will provide more clarity on the circumstances of the crash.
