ATLANTA – A man has been arrested by Atlanta police after he was found hiding in a closet following a break-in at a newly constructed home in the city.
The Atlanta Police Department released body cam footage showing the dramatic moments when officers discovered the suspect, identified as Declarence McGhee, hiding inside the home.
According to police reports, the incident took place on March 28, when a concerned neighbour alerted 911 after witnessing the suspect breaking into the property next door.
In the 911 call, the panicked neighbour can be heard reporting the break-in, stating, “I can still see the person. He’s standing right outside my home now,” expressing fear for her safety and the safety of her baby.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers discovered broken glass near a door on the street, indicating forced entry into the property. They swiftly entered the building and located McGhee concealed in a closet.
McGhee was subsequently taken into custody and is currently being held at Fulton County Jail. He faces a charge of criminal damage to property in connection with the break-in.
