PASADENA, Calif. (KABC) — The Pasadena community is reeling from a devastating car crash that claimed the lives of three individuals and left three others critically injured. The incident, which occurred over the weekend near the intersection of Sierra Madre and Foothill boulevards, has deeply impacted the Maranatha High School community, as several of the victims have ties to the school.

The Pasadena Police Department reported that a Tesla Model 3 carrying six occupants was traveling at speeds exceeding 100 miles per hour when it ran a red light and collided with a power pole before crashing into a vacant building. The aftermath of the crash has left many questioning the circumstances that led to such a tragic outcome.

Among the victims of the crash are three individuals who have connections to Maranatha High School, adding an additional layer of sorrow to the already devastating event. Head of School John Rouse shared that two current students are among the injured, while one former student tragically lost their life in the collision.

One of the victims has been identified as Stefan Michael Pfeiffer, a 20-year-old Eagle Scout and student at Pasadena City College. Co-workers have also confirmed the identities of Esrom Fessemaye and the 22-year-old driver, Mohed Samuel, who were both killed in the crash.

In addition to the fatalities, Samuel’s younger sister sustained serious injuries, along with another man and woman involved in the accident. The ages of those affected range from 17 to 22 years old, highlighting the youth of the individuals impacted by this tragedy.

Investigators are still working to determine the cause of the crash, with alcohol being a potential factor under consideration. Lt. Anthony Russo stated that while there was evidence of alcohol in the car, it is unclear at this time whether the driver was impaired or under the influence at the time of the collision.

In the wake of the devastating event, Maranatha High School has mobilized a support system for students, cancelling Senior Ditch Day and providing counseling services to help students navigate the grieving process. Rouse emphasized the importance of offering empathy and support to students during this difficult time.

As the community mourns the loss of lives and grapples with the aftermath of the crash, the investigation into the incident continues. The impact of this tragedy will be felt for years to come, as loved ones and classmates come to terms with the loss of those involved.
