According to reports, the incident took place on May 9, 2024, at around 6:48 pm in the 600 block of New Hudson Street. Witnesses contacted emergency services to report a disturbance involving a female individual armed with a firearm. The witnesses claimed that the woman had discharged the firearm multiple times before fleeing the scene in a vehicle.

VPD officers swiftly responded to the call and located the suspect, identified as Shaque Whitted O’Connor, a 30-year-old African American resident of Valdosta. O’Connor was apprehended during a traffic stop on South Fry Street, and the firearm in question was recovered from her possession.

Further investigation revealed that O’Connor had been engaged in a dispute with a family member, during which she retrieved a firearm from her vehicle and began firing indiscriminately. The bullets struck a residence and several vehicles multiple times. Shockingly, there were occupants inside the residence at the time of the shooting, including a 3-year-old child and an infant under the age of 2.

Chief Leslie Manahan of the VPD commended the swift response of the officers and dispatchers in handling the situation, preventing any injuries from occurring. She expressed disbelief at the reckless behaviour of O’Connor, particularly in endangering the lives of innocent children.

O’Connor is currently being held at the Lowndes County Jail pending further legal proceedings. The VPD is continuing its investigation into the incident to ensure justice is served in this alarming case..
