Accident – Death – Obituary News : Residents of Kerugoya, Kirinyaga County, were left in disbelief after a boda boda rider was apprehended for cohabiting with two high school female students who had been reported missing for a month. The two students, who were sisters, had vanished from their home, prompting concerns from their family and the community.

According to the girls’ uncle, there had been ongoing disagreements between the teenagers and their father regarding their habit of returning home late. The father was reportedly unhappy with the girls coming back home late in the evening, leading to tensions within the family.

Upon the discovery of the girls at the boda boda rider’s residence, angry residents gathered at the scene demanding answers. Peter Bundi, the girls’ uncle, expressed his concerns about the situation and questioned the man’s motives for harboring the students without their parents’ consent.

“I asked him why he was always scolding his children; he told me they always returned home quite late, from 7 pm to around 8 pm there. And he didn’t want that,” Bundi stated during an interview with NTV.

The girls, who were under the care of their father before eloping, were identified as a Form Four and Form Three student respectively. One resident highlighted the importance of mothers being actively involved in their daughters’ lives to prevent them from seeking support and companionship from older men.

Ruth Nduru, the chief of the region, emphasized the role of parents in fulfilling their children’s needs to prevent such situations from occurring. The suspect was taken into custody at Kerugoya Police Station as preparations were made to return the girls to school.

In a separate incident, Beverlyne Atieno Oduor, a 15-year-old high school student from Kisumu, went missing from her parents’ home in Kondele. Her disappearance raised concerns among her family, as she was due to return to school for the third term.

Beverlyne’s parents revealed that she was last seen near a mosque in Manyatta village on August 23, 2023. They suspected that she was being held by a boda boda rider living in Alendu, past Molem in Kisumu.

The government is actively involved in ensuring the safe return of the missing students to their families and supporting their reintegration into school. The incidents serve as a reminder of the importance of vigilance and parental involvement in safeguarding the well-being of students..
