An excessive speed may have been the trigger for a tragic two-vehicle collision in Santa Clarita, resulting in the death of a woman and injuries to four others, authorities have revealed.
The incident took place around 11:25 p.m. on Saturday at the intersection of Sand Canyon Road and Sierra Highway. The vehicles involved were a black truck and a white SUV, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Initial investigations by the CHP suggest that the black truck was travelling at a high rate of speed just before the collision occurred.
The woman who tragically lost her life in the crash has been identified as 30-year-old Maritza Martinez, as confirmed by the Medical Examiner’s office. Martinez was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
Emergency responders, including paramedics from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, were dispatched to the scene at 11:18 p.m. and transported four injured individuals to nearby hospitals for urgent medical treatment.
