SPRINGFIELD, MA (WGGB/WSHM) – Following a tragic incident, a suspect has been apprehended by authorities in Springfield.
The Springfield Police Department received a distress call regarding a shooting at a gas station located on the 0-100 block of Locust Street on Friday. Officers promptly responded to the scene where they discovered an adult male victim who had succumbed to his injuries. The victim has been identified as Gustavo Cartagena, a 49-year-old resident of Springfield, according to the Hampden District Attorney’s Office.
Investigations led to the issuance of an arrest warrant for the alleged perpetrator, identified as Jonathan Resto, a 24-year-old Springfield resident. Resto was apprehended by law enforcement officers on Mill Street early Monday morning.
The suspect is facing multiple charges, including murder, possession of a firearm without a license, possession of a loaded firearm without a license, and discharging a firearm within 500 feet of a building. He is scheduled to appear in Springfield District Court for arraignment later today.
