LEXINGTON, Ky. (ABC36 NEWS NOW) – The Fayette County Public Schools (FCPS) is continuing its investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic death of a Henry Clay High School student, 17-year-old Emmanuel Mwakadi, last Friday (5/10).

According to a statement received from FCPS, Mwakadi experienced a “medical crisis in the classroom,” prompting immediate action from school staff. The incident is currently under investigation, and further comments will be provided once the investigation is complete.

While reports suggest that Mwakadi’s medical emergency occurred after intervening in a school restroom altercation, FCPS did not confirm this in their official statement.

The FCPS statement reads as follows:

‘The entire FCPS family is mourning the loss of the student at HCHS who passed away on Friday. School officials, teachers, and district personnel have been in constant communication with the family since the student’s medical emergency in the classroom. The incident is being thoroughly investigated, and no further comments will be made until the investigation concludes. Our heartfelt condolences go out from the superintendent and the entire FCPS family.’
