EUCLID, Ohio (AP) — A tragic incident unfolded in the Cleveland suburb of Euclid over the weekend as a police officer was shot and killed after being ambushed while responding to a disturbance call, authorities revealed on Sunday.
The incident occurred just before 10 p.m. on Saturday when officers were dispatched to a home following a reported disturbance. While conducting their investigation, a gunman ambushed one of the officers, fatally striking him with gunfire. The injured officer was rushed to a nearby hospital but unfortunately succumbed to his injuries, police confirmed.
The suspected shooter, identified as Deshawn Anthony Vaughn, was also found deceased following a manhunt. He was located at an address in Shaker Heights after a standoff with law enforcement officers. The suspect, who was heavily armed, met his demise inside the residence, although the exact circumstances of his death remain unclear.

The fallen officer was identified as 23-year-old Jacob Derbin, who was in his first year of service with the department, according to Ohio’s attorney general, Dave Yost. Yost expressed his sorrow and anger at the injustice, stating, “My heart burns with anger at this injustice, for the family of this young officer and the Euclid Police Department.”
