DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. – On the evening of May 9, Deondria Alexander, a 35-year-old resident of Avondale Estates, found herself in a predicament that led to her arrest at the DeKalb County Jail. The incident unfolded when she allegedly attempted to smuggle contraband to an inmate housed at the correctional facility situated on Memorial Drive in Decatur.

The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office reported that Alexander was apprehended around 2 a.m. after she parked her vehicle in a spot designated for individuals with disabilities and was spotted walking in a restricted courtyard area of the detention center. Sheriff’s deputies swiftly intervened and took her into custody. Upon closer inspection, law enforcement officers discovered a bag containing suspicious items near her position, alongside a rope dangling from a cell window.

A thorough search of the bag revealed a stash that included Newport cigarettes, a packet of tobacco, two mobile phones, charging cables, a cigarette lighter, Bugler tobacco, and a small pouch containing a substance later confirmed to be marijuana.

As a consequence of her actions, Alexander now faces a string of charges, encompassing possession of less than an ounce of marijuana and misuse of a disabled parking space—both classified as misdemeanours—and breaching state/county boundaries with a weapon, intoxicants, drugs without consent, a felony under the law.

Subsequent to her arrest, Alexander was detained without any resistance and is presently being held at the DeKalb County Jail, with a bail amount set at $5,000.
