PETEROROUGH-Peterborough County OPP officers responded to a call regarding a vehicle that had veered into the ditch on Highway 7 near the 11th Line of Asphodel in the early hours of May 11. Upon arrival, officers discovered an individual next to the vehicle who claimed to be the driver. The driver reportedly lost control while attempting to make a turn at the 11th Line, causing the vehicle to leave the road and end up in the ditch.

During their interaction with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment and proceeded to administer an Approved Screening Device (ASD) test. The driver failed the test after providing a breath sample, leading to their immediate arrest.

Andrew McNeil, a 29-year-old resident of Norwood, ON, was taken into custody and charged with Operation while impaired – blood alcohol concentration (80 plus).

As a consequence of the incident, the accused had their driver’s licence suspended for a period of 90 days and their vehicle impounded. McNeil is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Peterborough on June 11, 2024.

The Peterborough County OPP is urging motorists to plan ahead when consuming alcohol or drugs, emphasising the importance of having a designated driver, using a cab or public transportation, or opting to stay overnight. They highlight that even small amounts of alcohol or drugs can significantly impair one’s judgement and driving abilities.
