MADISON COUNTY — The individual suspected of firing shots at an Amazon fulfilment centre in West Jefferson on Sunday has been identified by authorities, according to reports from our media partner WBNS-10 TV.

The alleged shooter has been named as Ali Hamsa Yusuf, who is reported to have discharged a semiautomatic handgun inside the facility. Yusuf was employed as a security guard for Amazon, as per the information provided by WBNS-10.

As previously covered by News Center 7, deputies from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office were called to the Amazon CMH5 Fulfilment Center at 6400 State Route 29 in West Jefferson following reports of gunfire within the premises shortly after 4:40 p.m.

In a statement shared on social media, the sheriff’s office confirmed that fortunately, no injuries were reported as a result of the incident.

Subsequent to the shooting at the Amazon facility, Columbus police officers were dispatched to an area near Georgesville and Clime Roads, where they encountered Yusuf around 6 p.m. on Sunday, according to WBNS-10.

A confrontation ensued and shots were fired just before 6:10 p.m. in Columbus. Yusuf was fatally shot by officers after several of them opened fire, resulting in his demise, Brian Steel, the president of the Fraternal Order of Police Capital City Lodge #9, informed both WBNS and NBC 4.

During the exchange, one officer sustained an injury when a bullet struck their vest, according to Steel.

The injured officer was swiftly transported to a Columbus hospital and is currently in stable condition. The Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) has been called in to conduct an investigation into the shooting.
