HUNTINGTON COUNTY, Ind. (WANE) — A tragic incident occurred in Huntington County on Saturday evening when a 68-year-old man lost his life after being struck by a pickup truck while crossing the street on his scooter.

The Huntington County Coroner, Wayne M. Hamlin, has confirmed that the victim, identified as Wayne M. Hamlin of Huntington, was involved in the accident on Warren Street in downtown Huntington just before 8 p.m.

According to initial reports, Hamlin was crossing the intersection of Warren Street and Washington Street when he was hit by a northbound pickup truck.

Response and Outcome

Emergency responders from the Huntington City Fire Department quickly arrived at the scene and transported Hamlin to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The coroner determined that the cause of death was blunt force trauma injuries, ruling it as an accidental death.

The driver of the pickup truck, identified as William McKinzie, was unharmed in the incident.
