In a heartbreaking incident that has left the residents of Hadapsar in shock, a 2-year-old child lost his life after coming into contact with a live wire submerged in stagnant water near a handball stadium on DP Road. The tragic incident occurred at around 7pm on a rainy Saturday evening, highlighting the dangers posed by waterlogging during heavy monsoon showers.

The victim, identified as Rohit Subhash Mandalkar, was a resident of PMC Colony on DP Road. Witnesses reported that the young boy accidentally stepped on the live wire concealed beneath the water’s surface, resulting in a fatal electric shock. Despite immediate efforts to rush him to the hospital, Rohit tragically succumbed to his injuries.

Speaking on the incident, DCP (Zone V) R Raja revealed, “Preliminary investigations suggest that a wire belonging to MSEDCL had snapped, leading to the tragic accident. The child, who was on his way home, unknowingly walked into the danger zone and suffered fatal electrocution. The post-mortem conducted at Sassoon hospital confirmed the cause of death as electrocution.”

The recent spell of heavy rainfall in Pune has led to widespread waterlogging in several areas, creating hazardous conditions for pedestrians and commuters. The incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for timely maintenance and inspection of electrical infrastructure to prevent such tragic accidents in the future.

Local authorities have been urged to take immediate action to address the safety concerns raised by residents in the wake of this devastating incident.
