SUMNER COUNTY, Kan. (KSNW) — Disturbing signs of foul play have been uncovered in human remains that were recently found in rural Sumner County, Kansas.

The discovery was made in the area of 358 N. River Rd. in Belle Plaine, prompting a response from the Sumner County Sheriff’s Office on Friday afternoon. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation was called in to assist with the case.

Upon arrival at the scene, KBI agents and the Crime Scene Response Team recovered the human remains. The body, identified as male, has yet to be positively identified, and efforts are underway to determine his identity.

The remains were transported to the Sedgwick County Regional Forensic Science Center for a detailed autopsy. The examination, conducted on Saturday, revealed troubling signs of foul play, as noted by the coroner.

As the investigation continues, both the KBI and the SCSO are working diligently to gather more information and piece together the circumstances surrounding the discovery of the deceased individual.
