Accident – Death – Obituary News : A tragic incident occurred at Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmed Medical College Hospital, where a patient lost her life after being trapped in a lift for approximately 45 minutes on the morning of 12th May. The victim was identified as Momtaz Begum, a 53-year-old woman from Raniganj Barigaon village in Kapasia upazila of Gazipur.
According to family members, Momtaz was being transported to the heart department on the fourth floor from the 11th floor around 9:30 am. However, the elevator suddenly stopped, leaving Momtaz and other passengers stranded. Despite their attempts to call the liftman for help, he reportedly behaved negligently and did not respond appropriately.
After the passengers contacted the national emergency number 999, the fire service was called to the scene. Unfortunately, by the time they were able to rescue Momtaz and the others, it was too late for Momtaz, and she had already passed away.
In response to this tragic incident, the hospital authorities have taken action by forming a four-member probe committee. The committee has been instructed to conduct a thorough investigation and submit a detailed report within three working days.
Deputy Director of the hospital, MD Jahangir Alam, expressed his condolences and assured that the hospital is committed to ensuring the safety and well-being of all patients. He emphasized the importance of conducting a comprehensive inquiry to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
