Authorities in Laurel, Delaware are on the lookout for an additional suspect following a high-speed pursuit that took place on Saturday.

The incident occurred on May 11, 2024, around 2:30 P.M. A police officer was traveling northbound on Sussex Highway near Sycamore Road when they noticed a gold Toyota 4-Runner driving recklessly. As the 4-Runner approached the intersection of Sycamore Road, it almost collided with the vehicle ahead of it and veered onto the right shoulder to overtake other stationary traffic. During this dangerous maneuver, the 4-Runner collided with a vehicle exiting a driveway, resulting in significant damage to both vehicles. The driver of the second vehicle sustained a minor head injury in the crash.

Upon witnessing the incident, the officer blocked the road to guide the vehicles into a parking lot and clear the debris. Instead of stopping, the 4-Runner drove behind a building, the driver fled on foot, and a passenger in the vehicle switched to the driver’s seat. Despite officers’ attempts to pull over the vehicle, the driver accelerated at a high speed, initiating a chase.

The pursuit lasted several minutes, with speeds exceeding 90mph. It concluded when the vehicle reached a dirt road dead-end behind a farmhouse, and the driver tried to escape on foot. Following a brief foot chase, the driver was apprehended, while the passenger was detained without resistance.

The driver, identified as 28-year-old Kenya Wynder from Bridgeville, was taken to the Laurel Police Department and charged with various offenses, including Reckless Endangering First Degree (Class E Felony), Disregarding Police Officer Signal (Class G Felony), Conspiracy Third Degree (Class A Misdemeanor), Resisting Arrest (Class A Misdemeanor), Leaving the Scene of an Injury Traffic Collision (Misdemeanor), Reckless Driving (Misdemeanor), and 24 additional traffic violations. Wynder was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 3 and remanded to Sussex Correctional Institution in exchange for $8,320 secured bail.

The passenger, identified as 26-year-old Shaquea Jones from Seaford, received a citation for Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and was incarcerated at Sussex Correctional Institution for two Violation of Probation capiases.

The identity of the driver during the collision is still unknown. Surveillance footage from nearby businesses was reviewed, and a screenshot was obtained for identification purposes.
