A tragic incident unfolded in Euclid, Ohio, as a police officer, Jacob Derbin, was shot and killed while responding to a disturbance call on Saturday night.
Officer Derbin, who had been with the Euclid Police Department for less than a year, was ambushed and shot while investigating the scene. Despite being rushed to the hospital, he succumbed to his injuries, as reported by WOIO.
Expressing his sorrow and determination for justice, Ohio Attorney General David Yost stated, “The promise to protect is signed with the blood of our officers. The killer who ambushed Officer Derbin will be found and will receive the full measure of justice.”
As the Euclid Police Department, alongside other law enforcement agencies, intensifies the search for the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Deshawn Anthony Vaughn, the community is urged to keep Officer Derbin, his family, and the department in their thoughts and prayers.
In a poignant statement, Euclid’s Mayor Kirsten Holzheimer Gail called for unity in the face of this tragedy, emphasising the values of compassion, resilience, and community spirit.
