SEDGWICK COUNTY—A man from Kansas has been sentenced to more than 12 years in prison for his involvement in a tragic incident that led to the death of a teenager.
This week, Fabian Griffin, aged 49 and hailing from Wichita, received his sentence for a case involving the negligent handling of a weapon that resulted in the teen’s untimely passing in 2017, as per a statement from the Sedgwick County District Attorney’s office.
Back in November 2022, Griffin pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in relation to the incident.
Shortly past 11:30 p.m. in March 2017, law enforcement officers were dispatched to the 1700 block of South Yale in Wichita, where they discovered three individuals inside a residence—Griffin, a 25-year-old individual, and the teenager later identified as Casey Lawrukiewicz.
Lawrukiewicz was rushed to a nearby hospital by emergency medical services but tragically succumbed to his injuries on March 4, 2017.
Furthermore, the presiding judge also mandated Griffin to pay $5,000 in restitution to reimburse the Kansas Crime Victims Fund, which covered the expenses of Lawrukiewicz’s funeral, in accordance with the district attorney’s office.
