A 25-year-old man from Bridgeport has been taken into custody in connection with a shooting incident that occurred last month, resulting in injuries to him and another individual, according to authorities.

Elijah M. Vines, the suspect in question, has been charged with assault, weapons violations, and other related offenses following a thorough investigation into the shootout that took place at a BP gas station on Fairfield Avenue on April 8, as confirmed by the Bridgeport Police Department.

Law enforcement officers responded promptly to the scene at 11:20 p.m. after receiving alerts from ShotSpotter technology and multiple reports from concerned citizens regarding gunfire in the area.

Upon arrival, evidence of a shootout was discovered, prompting the officers to secure the location and call in detectives to further examine the scene.

Subsequently, Vines presented himself at a local hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg, which was deemed non-life-threatening by medical staff. He was later identified as one of the individuals involved in the shooting incident.

Detective Aaron Rivera spearheaded the investigation, diligently gathering evidence and witness testimonies in the weeks that followed the incident.

On April 25, Detective Rivera obtained an arrest warrant for Vines on charges of criminal attempt – assault in the first degree, criminal possession of a firearm, illegal discharge of a firearm, and reckless endangerment.

With the assistance of the U.S. Marshal’s Violent Fugitive Task Force and local patrol officers, Vines was located in the South End of the city on May 9 and taken into custody without any resistance.

Following his apprehension, Vines was processed at the police department and held on a bond of $350,000. He was arraigned at Bridgeport Superior Court the following day.
