Two individuals have been apprehended after an alarming incident unfolded at Poquonnock Plains Park in Groton on Saturday, prompting a swift response from law enforcement authorities and causing a mass evacuation of attendees at a youth sporting event.

Police Response and Arrests

The Groton police department swiftly reacted to reports of a man allegedly brandishing a firearm at the park during a youth sporting event on Saturday afternoon. While initial calls erroneously indicated gunshots were fired, officers arrived promptly at the scene to control the situation.

Following a physical altercation between two men on the sidelines of one of the games, one of the individuals reportedly returned to his vehicle to retrieve what appeared to be two firearms. This action instigated panic among the crowd, leading to a chaotic evacuation with hundreds of people fleeing in different directions.

Law enforcement officers managed to apprehend the two suspects, identified as Dustin A. Hibbert, 30, from Bridgeport, and Randall J. Clark, 43, from Medford, Mass. Both individuals are facing charges related to the incident, including second-degree breach of peace, risk of injury to a minor, and additional charges for Clark, such as first-degree threatening, reckless endangerment, carrying a firearm with intent to display, and carrying a firearm without a permit.
